Birthday Present From Me, To Me
I decided that to reward myself for not dying somehow for yet another year, it would be fun to sew something for myself. Something awesome. Something so awesome I would look at it and say, “Damn girl, where’d you get that? It’s awesome. Oh, wait, I made it. That’s why it’s so awesome!”
So, I have this fetish for remnants. I scavenge chunks of whatever with no plan in mind so that someday I’ll have it for when I need a chunk of whatever. Thusly I have notions and oddities galore. My kid has had more dresses made out of seventy-five cent pieces of fabric than I can keep count of and I have a little tote full of weird ribbon ends and such.
Anyway, I had this fantastic chunk of black canvas I snatched for a hefty sum of two bucks because when I saw it I knew someday I would think of something to do with it. Today was that day. I wanted to make a messenger bag.
I also save little scraps of cloth most people would think are too small to be of use because someday, someday…
So, here’s my messenger bag waiting to be assembled:

Doesn’t look like anything too spectacular, does it? But wait…

Yay, teeny piece of cherry cloth left over from Hei-chan’s old dress. And hurray for the random piece of grommeted faux-leather I stumbled over for a whole dollar!
You like that, don’t you?
Let’s see more:

The inside front pocket, with more cherries.

My iPod fits right in there. I never leave home without it. Ok, fine, I never leave my room without it. No one else wants to listen to my music, but I always do.

Inside pockets for my cards and my phone.
This bag turned out so awesome in three hours (I get distracted) that Hei’s dad actually said, “That bag looks like you could have bought it at Hot Topic, if everything at Hot Topic didn’t suck so much…” so I figure it must look pretty bad ass.
